Bryan Davies

Bryan Davies is Shadow Transport Minister and an opposition spokesperson on Treasury matters in the House of Lords. He was made a life Peer in 1997. 

 

Bryan is an experienced Member of Parliament. From 1974 to 1979 he was elected MP for Enfield North.Between 1979 and 1992, Bryan served as Secretary to the Parliamentary Labour Party and the Shadow Cabinet. From 1992 to 1997, he was MP for Oldham Central and Royton. Shortly after entering the Lords, Bryan’s  experience was recognised and he spent the next eleven years serving the Labour Party as a Government Minister (1999 – 2010). In 2006 he was appointed to the Privy Council.

 

Prior to entering Parliament, Bryan’s career was in the trade union movement. He was Divisional Executive Officer of NATFHE until 1974 and since 1979 has been a member of the Transport and General Workers’ Union (now Unite). Bryan has an ongoing interest in further education, and chaired the Further Education Funding Council (1998- 2000).
