Dianne Hayter joined the Labour frontbench team in the House of Lords as a whip in September 2011, having been made a life Peer in 2010. As Shadow Consumer Affairs Minister, she speaks from the frontbench on Cabinet Office and BIS issues.

Dianne brings a wealth of political ideas to our frontbench through her experience as the General Secretary of the Fabian Society (1976-1982) and Chief Executive of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (1990-1996). She served on Labour’s National Executive Committee from 1998 to 2010, representing the Socialist Societies (including a year as Chair from 2007-2008).

Outside politics, Dianne has held a number of positions in the legal and consumer affairs industry, including board membership of the Financial Reporting Council's Board of Actuarial Standards, the Determinations Panel of The Pensions Regulator, the Property Standards Board and the Insolvency Practices Council. She was previously Chair of the Legal Services Consumer Panel and Vice-Chair of the Financial Services Consumer Panel.

In her spare time, Dianne takes a keen interest in Labour history, on which she has authored a number of books and pamphlets.
