Jeremy Beecham

Jeremy Beecham is an active member of Labour’s frontbench in the House of Lords, and a Shadow Minister in both the CLG and Justice teams. He was introduced as a Peer in autumn 2010.

Jeremy brings a wealth of experience in local government to his work in the Lords, having been a Labour councillor in Newcastle-upon-Tyne since 1967 and council leader from 1977 to 1994. He chaired the Local Government Association from 1995 to 2004 and the Association of Metropolitan Authorities from 1991 to 1997; and also a review of local public services in Wales in 2006.

 

Jeremy has held many positions of responsibility within the Labour Party, including membership of the National Executive Committee from 1998 to 2010, with a period as Chair from 2005 to 2006. For more information, read Jeremy's biography - available here.
