John Grantchester is Shadow Defra Minister in the House of Lords, and also a member of the opposition DECC team. He came into the House of Lords in 1995 and is one of only four hereditary Labour Peers.
John has a background in agriculture, business and sport.
He was Chair of Dairy Farmers of Britain and President of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers; represented Cheshire at the Royal Agricultural Society and was Chair of the Cheshire branch of the Country Land and Business Association. John's has wide experience as a Director of food chain companies and farm shops, but his most notable business activity was within various Littlewoods companies, including home shopping and pools. From 2005 to 2010, he was an active member of the sub-regional partnership, the Cheshire & Warrington Economic Alliance.
John has had active participation in football, charing the local Football Partnership in Liverpool as well as being a director of Everton FC. He has been a trustee of the Foundation for Sports and the Arts since 1997; and Chair of the Everton Collection Charitable Trust since 2005.
